Book Binding

So, you want to make a book, huh? We offer a few different options for making books here at Brownlee, each comes with their own quirks and rules. I’ll give you a few pointers, just to get you going, but if you want to talk more about what we can do for you - shoot me an email.

Saddle-Stitched.

Stapled. You see this most times on comic books and zines. Sheets of paper are folded in half, and then the whole pile is stapled together. When a sheet of paper gets folded in half, you essentially have FOUR pages. So, 2 sheets is 8-pages, 3 sheets is 12 pages, and so on. Because of this, your file will need to have a page count that is divisible by 4.

Wire-o.

Spiral-bound. You see the most commonly in journals and calendars. These are flat sheets of paper (text or cover weight) that get holes punched on the left edge, and then get fitted with a metal, wire-o binding. These will always have an even number of pages.

Perfect Bound.

Square edge, pages are glued to the cover. The is a common practice for softcover books. A perfect-bound book needs to be at least 40 pages, and no more than 650 pages.
Trim dimensions: (“W x “H): minimum = 5”x 5”; maximum = 8.5” x 11”
